COLORdash™ Captivates Miami Church

DORAL, Fla. – Ignite Church, a small Christian house of worship in Miami, relies on 17 CHAUVET® fixtures to complement the rhythm of their Christian rock band and enhance their preacher’s stage presence.
Abdiel Falcon, lighting designer for Ignite Church, teamed with Oscar Bustillo and Bryan Marichal to create the lighting design. The team envisioned a simple design that would provide an even, saturated wash while not bombarding the space and making it appear overdone. They wanted small, powerful fixtures that were flexible enough to change the lighting scheme at any time.
“We intended for the design to captivate parishioners, not distract them by having large fixtures project colors from every direction,” Falcon said. “We wanted lights that included a lot of effects, were smaller in size, projected a powerful wash, had a large LUX capacity and were reasonable in price. The CHAUVET® fixtures we used provided exactly what we were looking for.”
Falcon specified the installation of six COLORdash™ Block fixtures to wash the walls and light the stage and five COLORdash™ Par Tri wash lights to illuminate truss. Two MiN™ Spot RGBW moving heads move to the sounds of Christian rock and create a fun atmosphere while two Followspot™ 400G spotlights highlight people on stage. An Obey™ 40 DMX console controls all the fixtures.
“Adding these lights dramatically changed the atmosphere and created a very positive mood among parishioners,” Falcon said. “The color changes complement our music, preacher and videos so well that it doesn’t feel like you’re going to church, but you are experiencing something much more special.”
Falcon faced a challenge when it came to running cables and hanging all 17 fixtures because Ignite Church is a small building. He suspended two trusses from the ceiling, mounted the fixtures and ran cables through the roof. To ensure the fixtures didn’t crowd each other and were illuminating the stage properly, Falcon said he positioned and tested each light individually and ended up with a perfectly lit stage.
