SOUTH BEACH AT ITS TRENDIEST

LEDing BY EXAMPLE: CLUB DEEP

In the ever trendy, fast-pace, and highly competitive South Beach scene, club owners Peter and Tina Pekofsky have mastered the art of staying afloat, literally: Since 1997, they operate Club Deep where patrons dance the night away over a 2000-gallon aquarium. The originality of the dance floor is famous worldwide but it’s the owners’ hands on management style and their ability to constantly surprise that keep the club in the enviable position of the most enduring hot spot in South Beach.  The Pekofskys recently turned their attention to lighting.  They framed the aquarium/dance floor with 34 CHAUVET LED COLORtubes™.  It’s a stunning scene:  patrons dance on lit blocks of water with live fish underneath. High energy CHAUVET Trackscan™ 250R scanners, two CHAUVET Laser Link Green™ and a thunderous JBL Sound System electrify the dance floor, contrasting nicely with the more soothing, yet mesmerizing touch provided by the lit water scene.  The friendly husband and wife team can be seen virtually every night working the door with their energetic staff, greeting an upscale clientele that includes Hip Hop stars such as Trick Daddy, Mr. Cheeks, Pitbull and Ja Rule as well as professional athletes such as Vince Carter and Ricky Williams to name a few.The hypnotic setting, irresistible dance music, beautiful people having a good time, and a super-friendly staff make this club a staple of the dolce vita in the heart of South Beach.

STRIPPING OFF DUTY-CYCLE TAGS: Tease or breakthrough?

No duty cycle. Run all night. Continuous operation.  Ad after ad, every major manufacturer these days touts lights that run continuously. But is this really a novel idea? Yes and no, depending on the lights in question.

The concept of continuous operation isn’t new. All DMX-512 fixtures including yokes, scanners and wash lights are widely designed to stand the rigor of permanent installations and long nights.

But what’s new today is that many simple plug n’ play effects are now also capable of standing the rigor of long nights without interruption. CHAUVET has already reconfigured about 75% of its plug n’ play effects to that end. These lights no longer need to be turned on and off at frequent intervals to avoid overheating or unit failure, thanks to remarkable advances in technology.  Mobile DJs can now safely showcase a variety of these effects for hours in a row.

Yet, despite these advances in plug n’ play, CHAUVET continues to promote inexpensive DMX fixtures as the better option for those seeking the peace of mind of continuous operation without a stiff price tag. Such fixtures are often as affordable as quality plug n’ play effects thanks to technological and production efficiencies. Examples include DMX Abyss™, 3D Magic™, Kinta™, Omega™ I and Fascination™. All are selling for less than $200.

“ These inexpensive DMX lights offer the most value,” CEO Albert Chauvet said. “You get a fixture that not only runs all night but is also fully programmable via DMX, comes with an unbeatable warranty and yet is still priced in the range of less versatile plug and play effects.”
