CHAUVET IN ACTION:
June - July 2004

WORKING OUT THE MAGIC IN LIGHTS.

CHAUVET lights orchestrate a truly magical feat four days a week at the New Wave Magic Show in Sunny Isles where award-winning duo Kevin & Caruso enchant the audience with a dazzling whirlwind of magic, costumes, special effects, showgirls, comedy and dance unlike anything ever seen in South Florida.

Behind the scene, Technical Director George Hernandez also works miracles with the lights. Before the show, he had mostly worked with High End Systems luminaires in other stage and theatrical productions. But a leaner budget prompted him to try less pricey fixtures this time around. He was nervous.

After all, fast, reliable and versatile lighting is crucial to a magic show. It helps set moods and varies the tone of numbers, from jazzy to romantic, mysterious to humorous, sexy to fairy-tale like. The lights must be precise enough to lit only what the magician wants you to see and distract from spots purposefully kept in the dark.

A few weeks shy of the premiere, Hernandez visited CHAUVET Miami dealer Stage Equipment and Lighting and gambled on 14 CHAUVET Trackscan™ 250R to pull the trick. He knew of CHAUVET’s reputation for value but had never before tested the manufacturer's intelligent lights.

The gamble paid off. “I wanted a high-energy atmosphere, yet a classy look,” he said. “ These lights are great. They are very fast and that’s very important when you have high energy dancers.”

Trackscan™ 250R scanners are now the main lighting source of the four-day a week, often sold out performances. “ They are amazing, their size is incredible, so small for all they do! I love the split colors and the price is great.”

Kevin and Caruso enthrall the audience with their award-winning magical illusions, a healthy dose of humor, stunning well-choreographed dancers in dazzling Vegas-style costumes and mesmerizing scenes including an enchanting snow fall in South Florida.

The veteran performers have claimed the prestigious "Show of the Year" award by the Cruise Line industry for the past 5 years and recently signed a record setting, 10-year contract with Carnival Corporation to produce four new shows for the newest luxury liners of the cruise line giant.

NEW WAVE MAGIC is performed Thursdays through Sundays at 8:pm, at the Ramada Marco Polo Resort’s newly renovated Persian Theater in South Florida’s Sunny Isles Beach.

PRODUCT INNOVATION:

ILS™ TECHNOLOGY: SEXY AND GIFTED

The sleek allure of CHAUVET’s ILS™ series of DMX-512 luminaires may fool you into thinking that they are just sexy head- turners that stand out thanks only to their good looks. But their true power of seduction is inside: They are brainy, more so than any other lights so far. And very easygoing.

Think of them as an altered species of DMX-512 luminaires with an extra ILS™ gene that makes them better and smarter performers.

ILS™ makes a programmer’s job a lot easier without eroding creativity. At the touch of a button of the ILS™ Control Center, you can program in as a little as five minutes. Even on stand-alone mode, ILS™-enabled lights can be linked. You can match colors, gobos, any trait you’d like in all ILS™-enabled fixtures on stand-alone or via DMX.

And you don’t need to address each fixture individually. The ILS™ Control Center does this remotely. No other system offers such flexibility, sophistication, freedom and ease of operation.

The system “ is a first for CHAUVET, and a first in the USA. We are thrilled that we can now offer a technology that is not only innovative but gives many more options to lighting designers while making DMX lighting easier than ever,” said CHAUVET CEO Albert Chauvet.

ILS™ stands for Integrated Lighting System. It includes a variety of top-notch DMX-512 fixtures with outstanding optics and engineering.

At the heart of the system is a user-friendly, universal DMX-512 controller, the ILS™ Control Center with 12 built-in and adjustable movements/effects. It remotely sets the DMX addresses of ILS™ enabled luminaires, eliminating the need to calculate and set the DMX channels of each fixture. You no longer need to climb a ladder to access and address your hanging fixtures.

Most major publications, including DJ Times, Lighting & Sound America, Lighting Dimensions, Mobile Beat, PLSN and Club Systems International are giving the system ample press. The interest generated by the series has prompted CHAUVET to set up a dedicated ILS™ website, ILS.chauvetlighting.com where only ILS™ products, videos and news will be featured.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

MOBILE BEAT Orlando 2004

CHAUVET’s all out presence at Mobile Beat Orlando is becoming somewhat of a tradition. Once again this year, the manufacturer had the biggest presence at the show where it sponsored the largest booth, hosted by CHAUVET dealer DJ World, as well as Mobile Beat’s official lighting system giveaway and a fun networking party of the South Florida DJ Association superbly hosted by SFDJA president Marc Weinstock.

A lucky system giveaway winner took home a Pizzazz™ scanner, a Nebula™ barrel scanner, a Techno Strobe™ 2000S and Precision™ FX-800 fogger.

At the SFDJA party, DJs won a fashionable DJ Squeeze™ contractible gobo effect, a DMX Kinta™, and the mobile DJ-friendly Gobo Splash™. All three lights were the sole lighting equipment used at the party.
