LIGHTING SOLUTIONS SYMPOSIUM,
A SUCCESS
May - June 2005

Dealers, designers and installers in March converged at the CHAUVET South Florida headquarters for an intensive 3-day educational workshop led by Product Development Manager Barry Abrams. They practiced programming, installation techniques, troubleshooting, studied the practical applications of lighting specifications and earned a certification of proficiency in ShowXpress™ DMX software. Participants also exclusively previewed up-and-coming CHAUVET fixtures. And they seized this unique opportunity to network with peers and CHAUVET professionals either during the formal training sessions or during informal gatherings over drinks, lunch and dinner. This in-house seminar initiative was a first for CHAUVET in an attempt to more actively foster a strong command of the technical aspects of lighting by sellers and users alike, CEO Albert Chauvet said. “ We find that there is a direct correlation between a dealer’s level of familiarity with lighting and sales in that particular dealership. Same with installers: The more they know about lighting, the more they can appreciate the value in our products and share this with their own clients.” Each trainee received a Product Training Certificate at the end of the session. They are: Adam Atkins (All American Bowling Equipment); Bob Barnette (Seneca Communications); David Brown (Pro Gear Warehouse); Richard Cardimen (All American Bowling Equipment)); Mark Eudaly (Ad Works); Steven Eudaly (Ad Works); Craig Gonzalez (DJ Supply, Michigan); Robert Kuron (DJ Supply, Michigan); Patrick Lupe (Digital Lighting Systems); Rob Mosier (Theatre Effects); Tom Murphy (Pro Gear Warehouse); Mark Pearl (DJ Supply, Florida); Andrew Postle (DJ Supply, Michigan); Lance Schrader (Seneca Communications); Doug Weber (Theatre Effects).

The next training seminar is being planned for the fall. For more information, e-mail barry@chauvetlighting.com

Spectrum™150W Architectural Wash

The new Spectrum™ 150W is an economical and durable exterior wash light incorporating 16 colors, blackout and color scroll controllable by a single DMX channel. The unit’s compact profile and its quiet, micro-stepped operation make it ideal for applications where discreet positioning is important. The sturdy aluminum housing has an IP rating of 55, ensuring reliable performances even in unfavorable weather conditions. A prolonged operation is further facilitated by the 6,000 hour-life of a high-intensity CDM150 discharge lamp and an efficient convection cooling system. Spectrum™ 150W also incorporates a fixture run timer, a frosted lens diffuser and thermal switch protection. Beam angle is 30 degrees, narrow enough to illuminate certain columns effectively. The tilt range is 200 degrees.
Spectrum™ 150W features 4 built-in stand-alone programs with varying timed color chases allowing synchronous or contrasting operation of multiple units to bathe a variety of structures, from clubs and entertainment venues to retail centers, fountains and statues, without the use of a controller of any sort.
The Spectrum™ 150W can also be controlled by the user-friendly Art-1Con Spectrum™ Color designed specifically for the entire Spectrum™ series. It allows users to access a color at the simple touch of a button or a slider and offers 10 built in chase patterns. Timed chases can be set to run from .01 second to 10 minutes. For prolonged time chases and color hold extending beyond 10 minutes, a universal DMX-512 controller is needed.

CHAUVET IN ACTION:

Photography Studio Introduces Portraits With A Beat

Watch out, Paris Hilton: Now anyone has a shot at being a star of the club scene. Just ask Professional Ohio-based Photographer Ladd Scavnicky. In an attempt to offer high school seniors a glitzy alternative to the traditional senior photo sessions, he revamped his North Bay Gallery Portrait Design studio to make it look like a mini-club and renamed it Club North Bay. “If the seniors have fun during their session and can bring friends along, their photographs will look great,” he reasoned. And sure enough, the predictable senior portraits are giving way to lively poses and cutting-edge captions of teens having a blast in a high-energy, club atmosphere.
Teens book the studio for the entire day. They select their own music. The lights are sound activated or pre-programmed. Photographs are taken individually and in groups throughout the day. At lunchtime, a limo takes the group out.
“This is the newest and coolest session in Northeast Ohio” says Scavnicky. “I want to offer our clients an experience they can’t get anywhere else. I believe that if the seniors have fun during their session and can bring their friends along, their photographs will look great.”
In business since 1986, Scavnicky enlisted the help North Shore Audio and Entertainment Services, a local disc jockey and theatrical lighting company, who recommended and installed the following CHAUVET lights: 1 x Passion Scan; 1 x Duo Scan; 1 x Double Derby; 1 x Alien; 2 x Color Bank 4; 4x Techno Strobe 1000-S
