Kipnis Studios: Setting New Standards in Theater Design                     10/5/2007

After years of exhaustive exploration, Jeremy Kipnis, director and senior engineer of Kipnis Studio Standard, has created the ultimate theater system showroom, replete with 96,000 watts of high-end sound, video that provides four times the resolution of 1080p, and lighting galore. "We use lighting to create scale in a large room, to highlight and showcase the equipment, and to complement the sound and video in creating a true theater experience," says Kipnis.

Kipnis Studio Standard designs and sets up high-end home and studio cinemas for a clientele ranging from movie, television, video, photo and internet professionals to affluent cinephiles or audiophiles seeking the ultimate in sound and projection systems. Kipnis designers promise a better-than-Imax viewing experience “to fool your senses” in the comfort of your own home or office with over 8.89 mega pixels creating images of stellar clarity, color, impact and 3-dimensionality, and the sound quality of a concert hall provided by highly specialized loudspeakers encased in the most exotic African wood cabinetry.

“I have been searching the planet for the very best picture and sound possibly for over 37 years,” Kipnis says. “When I couldn’t find it, I decided to make it myself.” Prices for top-of-the-line Kipnis Studio-designed theater rooms start at $2million.

The illumination of the new 1600- square- foot showroom relies heavily on the use of LED light sources, with 29 CHAUVET LEDsplash™ 200B & 25 LEDrain™ 56 arranged on wall-mounted trussing. LED-fitted fixtures were selected for multiple reasons. One is silent operation as opposed to the low-level buzz generated by fixtures using an incandescent light source. Secondly, the lights hang from wall-mounted trusses, in close proximity to the acoustic foam covering every wall and ceiling surface to soundproof the room. Regular PAR fixtures would have generated excess heat, which could damage the foam panels, age them prematurely, and create a fire hazard. Lastly, the long life of LEDs means less downtime and ladder climbing to replace lamps. Kipnis says he chose CHAUVET fixtures after months of research, as “CHAUVET was consistently ahead of everyone else in LED technology and had a good reputation on the net.”

Each LEDsplash™ 200B features 199 diodes, RGB mixing, and a 45-degree beam angle, which makes them well suited for flood and wide wash lighting of the overall space. By contrast, the LEDrain™ 56’s, with 85 diodes per fixture, are focused into a narrow, 11.5-degree spot, which allows Kipnis to highlight equipment and accentuate selling points and interesting design features.

“From hush lighting to a strobing action sequence, with the CHAUVET DMX LED fixtures, every color and action I could imagine from a PAR fixture is at my fingertips,” says Kipnis.
