Escape to Waikiki by way of COLORado™

November 1, 2010

Waikiki, Hawaii – On a stretch of legendary Waikiki beach sits the Sheraton Waikiki. Its grounds were recently renovated to include two outside spaces with uplighting provided by 41 COLORado™ 1 wash lights. The south, or Diamond Head, side is called Helumoa Playground and features two fresh water swimming pools, two whirlpools, a water slide, a splash fountain area for the kids and more. The north, or Ewa, side features a new infinity edge pool situated a few feet above the ocean.

The Ewa side is served by the adults-only lounge, Edge of Waikiki, and features palm trees uplit in a wash of blue by eight COLORado™ 1 fixtures. Helumoa Playground, on the Diamond Head side, has access to the bar and grille RumFire and features a terrace of outdoor seating surrounded by gas-fired iron bowls, tiki torches and palm trees uplit in red and orange by 33 CHAUVET® COLORado™ 1 wash lights.

“We use COLORado™ 1 as a stand alone wash light,” said Joel Savoie, lighting designer and mechanical engineer for Sheraton Waikiki. “We simply mounted the lights to palm trees, turned them on, set a color and walked away. The end result was great.”

In an atmosphere of laid-back relaxation like Waikiki, easy-to-maintain, long-lasting lighting and atmosphere effects are the perfect choice. COLORado™ 1 indoor/outdoor wash light features a sturdy die cast aluminum body with a total of 36, one-watt red, green and blue LEDs. Its housing is rated at IP-65 and can withstand rigorous outdoor conditions.

“They generate almost no heat and can be used in close proximity to guests,” said Savoie. “And there are no color gels to change. They seem very rugged and salt water and sprinkler proof.”
